About Me

Anissa Bahrenburg, LCSW

I am fortunate to do work that I love. I think that therapy is one of the greatest gifts that you can give yourself. It is an investment of time, money and most of all energy in yourself. YOU ARE WORTH IT and YOU CAN DO THE WORK.

-I offer Sex and Relationship Therapy as well as Clinical Supervision both in person and via Telehealth.

-I work from a trauma informed and strengths based perspective. I believe that you are resilient, strong and wise.

-I believe that people have good intentions and are doing the best that they can in the moment.

-I am present-focused and have a collaborative and direct approach.

-We will establish specific goals for our work together however my goal is for all clients to feel better and become their most authentic selves.

-I am body positive.

-I am kink affirming.

-I am an LGBTQIA+ ally.

-I support all types of relationships including polyamory, ethical non-monogamy, monogamy and more.

My background is in mental health and medical social work. I have  20 years of experience supporting clients in achieving their goals. I am currently enrolled in an advanced certification program for Relationship and Sex Therapy at the Modern Sex Therapy Institute.

I have over a decade of experience training second year graduate students and CSWAs toward licensure, both individually and in a group setting. I graduated from Lewis & Clark College in 1998 with a BA in Communication. After working for several years I returned to school at Portland State University and graduated with a Masters of Social Work in 2004. For additional information regarding my education and history, please see my LinkedIn.

I reside in SE Portland with my significant other, two boys and dog, George. I fell in love with SE Portland in the 1990's and have lived here since. In my free time I enjoy going to concerts, making music, camping and cuddling with George.

"Anissa and I figured out how my past (traumatic) experience has really been getting in the way of me connecting with my partner and us moving forward in our relationship in the way that we would like. Now that I realize that and I am working through it, things with us are in a much better place."
